Liberty Lake ORV Park Closure

Liberty Lake ORV Park Closure

As  authorized by order of the Fire Code Official, July 22nd, 2022, to  ensure public safety and to protect Spokane County property the Director  of Spokane County Parks,

Recreation and Golf Department hereby imposes a  temporary closure of the Liberty Lake ORV Park to motorized activities  until further notice, effective the date of this notice,

August 3rd,  2022, unless this order is otherwise lifted, in whole or in part, or  unless otherwise permitted by law or by authorized agencies.

Over  recent years, the state wildfire season has begun earlier and with  greater intensity. DNR fire and forest health experts believe some of  the uptick in the number of fires is due

to years of persistent drought  on the east side of the Cascades, which has weakened forests and made  them more susceptible to insects and disease. Ailing forests become

flammable, ready to ignite from a human-caused spark or a lightning  strike.

Due to the nature of the trails in the Liberty Lake ORV  Park having an abundance of vegetation in proximity to the trails, and  because bum restrictions are now in effect throughout

Spokane County,  the Parks Department is imposing this temporary restriction on motorized  vehicle use in the park as a heightened fire precaution.
