Spokane County Earns National Service Award for Veteran Services

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – The Spokane County Regional Veteran Services Center has recently received an Achievement Award from the National Association of Counties

(NACo). The awards honor innovative, effective county government programs that strengthen services for residents.

Senior Director of Community Affairs, Cat Nichols and the Veteran Services Manager, Chris Dorcheus, will be accepting the award on behalf of Spokane County at this week’s

NACo Annual Conference and Exposition in Adams County, Colo.

Mary Kuney, Chair of the Spokane County Board of Commissioners, stated, “The accomplishments our team of Veteran Service Officers, have made in four short years is

amazing. Together, in partnership with the WA State Department of Veterans Affairs, they have secured over $9 million in Claims awards to Veterans. Their work has helped

significantly reduce veteran homelessness in Spokane County.”

In accepting the award on behalf of Spokane County, Nichols commented, “It is an honor to accept this NACO Achievement Award on behalf of the amazing team of veteran

service professionals at the Service Center, and an even greater honor to have been a part of this significant positive impact for our veteran and military services community in

Eastern WA.”

NACo President Larry Johnson said, “All across the country, counties are working tirelessly to support residents and drive recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. This year's

Achievement Award-winning programs showcase how counties work every day to build healthy, safe and thriving communities.”
