Single Vehicle Crash at Five Mile Road and Waikiki Road
Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit Investigators continue working to determine the cause of an early morning single-vehicle crash at Five Mile Road and N. Waikiki Road. The driver and three occupants, all adults, were seriously injured and transported to the hospital for additional care.
On June 16, 2022, at approximately 3:00 am., Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of Five Mile and Waikiki for an injury crash.
Arriving Deputies located a single vehicle on its top, in the ditch, east of Waikiki. Deputies assisted Spokane County Fire District 9 and AMR personnel with removing all four occupants.
The occupants were transported to the hospital for additional treatment and evaluation.
Initial information indicates the passenger car was traveling east on Five Mile at what appears to be a high rate of speed when the driver failed to negotiate a curve and crossed over Waikiki before leaving the roadway and crashing into the ditch.
Traffic Unit Investigators believe speed and impairment are factors in this serious crash.
SIRT Volunteers responded to the scene to assist with traffic control while that area of Waikiki was closed until just before 9:00 am.
This remains an active investigation, and additional information is not available.
