The Spokane Police Department has teamed up with 16 businesses in the city to offer someplace safe for people who feel threatened and victims of crimes.
The program is called Spokane Safe Place. Participating businesses have agreed to train their staff on how to report crimes and let victims wait for police to arrive inside their buildings. Victims will be able to identify these safe businesses by a decal.
Most of the businesses that have already signed up for the program are located in the city's Perry District including: Odyssey Youth Movement, Perry Street Brewing, Wellness Tree, South Perry Pizza, Bee You Organics, Lantern Tap House, Roots Salon & Spa, Veda Lux, Boombox Pizza, Fast Eddies, Red Wheel, Rivercity Brewing, Borracho Tacos & Tequeliaria, Nyne Bar & Bistro, Satellite Diner, and Nectar Wine and Beer.
"You can come to us," Kitty Kane, owner of Nyne Bar & Bistro said in a release posted on the city's website, "we will take care of you, and we will make sure you get home."
