Assistant US Attorney named district election officer for Eastern Washington
United States Attorney Vanessa Waldref has appointed Assistant United States Attorney Frieda Zimmerman as the District Election Officer for the Eastern District of Washington. This appointment is part of the Justice Department's nationwide Election Day Program for the general election on November 5, 2024. AUSA Zimmerman will oversee complaints related to voting rights, threats against election officials or staff, and election fraud in consultation with Justice Department Headquarters.

Othello man indicted on charges of odometer tampering
Spokane, Washington – On September 4, 2024, a federal grand jury for the Eastern District of Washington returned an indictment charging Reynaldo Valdez Garza Jr., age 52, of Othello, Washington, with five counts of odometer tampering. Garza made his first appearance in Federal Court on September 9, 2024.

Richland sex offender sentenced to 15 years for child pornography
Vanessa R. Waldref, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, announced that Gerald Alan Nott, age 63, of Richland, Washington, was sentenced after pleading guilty to one count of Receipt of Child Pornography. United States District Judge Mary K. Dimke imposed a sentence of 180 months (15 years) imprisonment to be followed by a lifetime term of supervised release.
