Students Lead Way in Mental Health Awareness and Discussion

86

TAKING CARE: Student-led clubs at Lewis and Clark High School and North Central High School are prioritizing mental health support for themselves and their peers.

“It's something that isn’t talked about enough in our schools and something that’s not talked about enough within groups of friends,” said LC senior Will Merrit, who helped create the Uplift Club to provide support for students and create awareness about mental health issues.

NC’s Wellness Club started five years ago, and made an extra effort to help younger students, especially IST middle school students, feel at home when school returned to in-person learning last spring.

“We created welcome back bags and continued certain activities for youth to get involved in our school and educate them about their own personal wellness and how they can take care of themselves and each other,” said senior Alexis Schallock, one of the club’s leaders.
