Community College of Spokane issued the following announcement.
Spokane Falls Community College has promoted Jim Brady, a 30-year employee and former SFCC student, to the position of vice president of learning.
Brady has been the interim vice president since the departure of the previous vice president, Andrew Feldman, last spring. After a national search, Brady was tapped by SFCC President Kimberlee Messina to fill the position.
“Jim embodies the community college mission and understands firsthand the challenges our students face,” Messina said. “The college has often reached out to him in times of transition to take on extra responsibilities such as acting dean duty or interim VP. Jim has always stepped up to each challenge, and we are very fortunate to have him now as our academic leader.”
The vice president of learning supports and oversees instructional programs at SFCC, which includes overall supervision of instructional staff and faculty.
“I am grateful to Dr. Messina and all of SFCC for this opportunity,” Brady said. “I have always been proud of my association with the college as student, instructor and dean and I am very much looking forward to this new role and what we can accomplish together.”
Brady was a first-generation college student who earned an Associate of Arts degree at SFCC before transferring to Eastern Washington University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education with a math and physics specialty and a master’s degrees in mathematics.
He started work at SFCC 30 years ago as an adjunct mathematics instructor, became a full-time instructor a year later, and for the last 15 years has been the dean of the Computing, Mathematics and Science department at SFCC.
