City of Spokane issued the following announcement.
Touring the City’s Waste to Energy facility has always been a popular activity for school groups and the general public. Due to current health restrictions though, in-person tours have been temporarily postponed. That doesn’t mean you have to wait to learn where your garbage goes and how Spokane manages its disposal.
Thanks to the help of KSPS and their GoPro360 camera, a new 12-minute tour is now available for viewing. Follow your tour guide (that would be me) on a walk through the facility and at each stop, you can literally look all around as you hear how things work. It is the next best thing to being there—maybe even better as you take the tour in the warmth and comfort of your home.
The Spokane Waste to Energy Facility has been operating since 1991 and processes up to 800 tons of municipal solid waste each day. From that trash, enough electricity for the use of 13,000 homes is generated. It is the only facility of its kind in the state of Washington.
