Mayor Nadine Woodward recently announced that as overnight temperatures are forecast to dip into the 20s, the City of Spokane is partnering with existing shelter providers to flex capacities to temporarily offer up to 105 additional spaces for adults, according to a news release by the City.

In an agreement with Truth Ministries, the City will temporarily cover the $2 fee for stay, lifting the barrier of entry for men to immediately access 75 available spaces at the shelter. The Way Out Shelter has also flexed to add 18 additional spaces and The Union Gospel Mission’s Men’s Shelter will again offer 12 additional low-barrier spaces when temperatures drop below freezing.

“Spaces have remained available in the shelter system and we are adding more in anticipation of increased demand when the temperatures drop,” Woodward said. “The ability to flex the system to add space worked really well last month thanks to the willingness of our partners to work with the City.”
