The Spokane City Council voted to award 15 organizations more than $1 million in CARES Act funding through an economic support funding program.

“With the funds provided by Congress and Governor Inslee, we’re able to allocate additional relief to our community in need of direct financial assistance,” City Council President Breean Beggs said in a release from the city of Spokane.  “I am  particularly pleased that we can focus the majority of these awards on  helping children and youth navigate the lack of in-person school days.”

Proposals in the second round were granted to organizations that covered areas in need including education, food security, small businesses, homelessness and community centers. Funds are to be used to help with programming and administrative costs that have become limited or will end due to COVID-19.

Organizations receiving funds include Mid City Concerns Inc DBA Meals on Wheels, West Central Community Center, Southwest Community Center, Martin Luther King Jr. Outreach Center, Women Helping Women Fund, Northeast Youth Center, Spokane Public Schools, YMCA of the Inland Northwest, Volunteers of American Eastern WA and N. Idaho, If You Could Just Save One, Catholic Charities, Feast Collective, Spokane Independent Metro Business Alliance, Wishing Star Foundation and Lutheran Community Services Northwest.

“The organizations selected provided compelling proposals,” City  Council member Karen Stratton said in the press release.  “It is gratifying to know that The City  will provide funding to organizations who continue to be good stewards  and serve our community members and businesses who are in need during  this pandemic.”
