Spokane Police Chief Craig Meidl was recently appointed the president of the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC), according to a news release from the Spokane Police Department.
“Chief Meidl is a great leader for our organization, especially during this period when there are substantive discussions about police reform at every level of government,” Steve Strachan, WASPC executive director, said in the press release. “He will help us review and commit to improved practices that recognize both community expectations and public safety.”
Founded in 1963, the WASPC is a one of a kind association made up of top management and executive personnel from law enforcement agencies statewide that provides specific materials and support to all law enforcement agencies in the state, members and non-members alike. Its members include the 39 elected county sheriffs and 240 police chiefs, as well as the Washington State Patrol, the Washington Department of Corrections and representatives of Tribal and federal agencies working as a single body, toward a common goal.
“It's an honor to serve this organization as they work tirelessly to improve law enforcement services to the community," Meidl said in the press release.
Meidl's term as WASPC president will last until Spring of 2021.
