South Hill House Fire

Around 9 pm on Tuesday, July 26th, 2022, units from the Spokane Fire Department (SFD), Spokane County Fire District 8, and Spokane Valley Fire Department were dispatched

to a structure fire at 3534 S Morrill Drive. SFD dispatchers had received a call reporting flames seen from a single-family home. First arriving SFD crews were on scene within 6

minutes of dispatch.

SFD crews arrived to find a significant volume of fire at the rear of the structure that had already progressed into the attic space. Firefighters focused on extinguishing the

advancing exterior fire while simultaneously searching and evaluating the interior of the home for possible occupants. Due to the rapid attack on the main body of the fire on the

structure’s exterior and a coordinated attack from the interior, SFD crews successfully prevented fire from extending beyond what crews observed on arrival. The home’s interior

ultimately sustained significant smoke damage and damage from attic access and overhaul.

There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.

The SFD Special Investigation Unit (SIU) was on-scene to determine the origin and cause of the fire, and at the time of this release, the cause of the fire is still undetermined. The

total estimated value of the structure is $750,000, with estimated damage to the structure and contents of $150,000.

MEDIA Educational Message: Working smoke alarms save lives, cutting the risk of dying in a home fire in half (NFPA). Smoke alarms should be installed in every room used for

sleeping, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of the home, including the basement. Test your smoke alarm once a month. Make sure everyone in your home

understands the sound the smoke alarm makes and knows what to do when activated.
