Congressman Michael Baumgartner, who represents Washington’s 5th congressional district, addressed national security and education in a series of posts on his official Twitter account on February 24 and 25, 2026.
On February 24, Baumgartner outlined his concerns regarding U.S. national security policy toward Iran. He stated, “The US national security concerns with Iran includes 1)nuclear proliferation, 2) ballistic missile threats, and 3)support for terrorist groups like Hamas, Hizbollah and Jayesh Al Mehdi that have killed score of Americans. Any agreement must include verifiable measures FOR ALL” (posted February 24, 2026).
Later the same day, Baumgartner shifted focus to education by highlighting his “Classroom to the Capitol” initiative. He posted: “From the classroom to the Capitol! Honored to have Mr. Plucker join me at tonight’s State of the Union. I hope his students are tuning in to cheer him on! Our ‘Classroom to the Capitol’ contest is a great reminder of the difference dedicated teachers make every day.” (posted February 24, 2026).
Continuing this theme into the evening of February 25, Baumgartner praised local educators: “I teachers! Great to have Mr. Bill Plucker, an outstanding teacher at Walla Walla High School with me at the State of the Union tonight! Hey E WA students, IF YOU WANT YOUR TEACHER to get my guest ticket to the SOTU, make sure to nominate in my ‘Classroom to the” (posted February 25, 2026).
Baumgartner has served as a member of Congress since being elected in November 2024 and sits on several committees related to foreign affairs and education.
