Congressman Michael Baumgartner, who represents Washington’s 5th congressional district, recently shared a series of updates on his official Twitter account. His posts covered topics ranging from international diplomacy to local infrastructure projects.

On May 12, 2026, Baumgartner reflected on his diplomatic engagement with China and the upcoming meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. He wrote, “Last September I became the first House Republican to visit China in six years. I’m pleased that President Trump and President Xi will soon meet – we need more dialogue between the US and China, not less, as we seek to avoid increased chances of conflict. The following day, May 13, 2026, Baumgartner highlighted his meeting with Max Kuney, a prominent figure in Washington’s construction industry. In his post he stated, “Great to meet with Max Kuney – the “Bob the Builder” of roads and bridges in Washington. Max’s company is leading some of the most challenging aspects of Spokane’s North South Freeway including the bridge over the river and the raised viaduct portion from Mission to Sprague. Later that same day, Baumgartner posted a brief message referencing global authoritarianism: “Hopefully every dictator in the world sees this. https://t.co/Um96ba84kw”.

Baumgartner has served as a U.S. Representative for Washington’s 5th district since January 2025 after previously holding positions in state government.
