Congressman Michael Baumgartner, who represents Eastern Washington in the U.S. House of Representatives, recently shared a series of posts on his Twitter account reflecting on economic policy discussions, international travel, and opportunities for local students.
On May 13, 2026, Baumgartner commented on lessons from foreign economic models during a meeting with fellow Republicans: “Never thought America could be learning economic lessons from Sweden, but here we are. Today I met with a group of Republicans to talk about how to reform government and address the spiraling national debt. I brought up Sweden’s embrace of capitalism, privatization, lower taxes”.
The following day, May 14, 2026, he reflected on an official visit to China: “Thinking about my Congressional trip to China last year – some of the architecture in Beijing was quite notable. Our meetings with the Chinese Premier and Foreign Minister took place in the Great Hall of the People which had a very striking Cold War type vibe. “.
Later that same day, Baumgartner highlighted an opportunity for high school students in his district: “So cool – that could be your son or daughter climbing that greased up obelisk! If you know a high schooler in Eastern Washington who is interested in seeking my Congressional nomination to attend the Naval Academy (or other academies) please be in contact with my office!”.
Baumgartner has served as a representative for Eastern Washington since his election to Congress and frequently uses social media to communicate legislative priorities and community opportunities to his constituents.
