Congressman Michael Baumgartner has recently addressed several issues affecting rural communities and the environment in Washington state through his official social media accounts.

On December 11, 2025, Baumgartner commented on wildlife management practices, writing: “Wolf populations are up. Calf losses are up. It’s time to bring balance and common sense back to wildlife management and stand with rural America. Empowerourranchers”

Later that same day, he expressed concern for residents affected by recent weather events in Washington. In a post dated December 11, 2025, he stated: “I am deeply concerned for the Washington families impacted by this week’s severe storms and flooding. I joined my colleagues in the Washington Congressional Delegation in urging President Trump to approve an expedited Emergency Declaration so our state can receive the federal”

On December 12, 2025, Baumgartner addressed salmon conservation efforts with a brief statement: “Save more salmon, shoot more sea lions. “

Baumgartner’s comments reflect ongoing debates about wildlife population control and its impact on agriculture in the region. Wolf predation on livestock has been a point of contention among ranchers and environmentalists for years. Calls for balancing wolf conservation with protections for rural livelihoods have led to policy discussions at both state and federal levels.

Recent severe storms have caused significant flooding across parts of Washington state, prompting local officials to seek federal assistance to support recovery efforts. The request for an expedited Emergency Declaration highlights the urgent need for resources following natural disasters.

Salmon populations in the Pacific Northwest have faced long-term challenges from habitat loss, overfishing, and predation by marine mammals such as sea lions. Proposals to manage sea lion populations as a means of protecting endangered salmon runs remain controversial among conservation groups and policymakers.
