Gonzaga freshman pitcher Landon Hood was named to the Midseason Freshman All-American Second Team by Perfect Game on Apr. 1.
The recognition highlights Hood’s strong performance during his first season with Gonzaga Bulldogs Men’s Baseball, marking him as one of the top freshmen in college baseball this year.
Hood, who was previously honored as the Gatorade High School Player of the Year in Arizona, leads all statistically qualified Gonzaga pitchers with a 3.72 earned run average and a 1.17 walks plus hits per inning pitched (WHIP). He has allowed just 6.21 hits per nine innings, which is the second lowest rate among pitchers in the West Coast Conference.
In addition to his low hit rate, Hood averages 11.79 strikeouts per nine innings—a figure that ranks sixty-first among all Division I pitchers nationally. Opposing batters are hitting only .187 against him this season, and he has recorded a total of 38 strikeouts over 29 innings pitched.
Hood’s achievements so far suggest he will continue to be an important player for Gonzaga as the season progresses.
