Gonzaga women’s tennis narrowly defeated by Portland in close match

The Gonzaga women’s tennis team lost a close contest to Portland, finishing with a score of 4-3, according to an April 11 announcement.

The match was competitive throughout, with Gonzaga initially taking the lead by winning the doubles point. On court one, Emily Robertson and Ella Nielsen secured a decisive 6-2 victory. Rose Hayes and Sveva Zerpelloni also contributed with a 6-4 win in their doubles match.

In singles play, senior Brooke Bittner extended Gonzaga’s lead by winning her match in straight sets, 6-3 and 6-0. Elizabeth Tindera added another point for the team with scores of 6-2 and 6-4 on court five.

However, Portland gained momentum during singles competition. Emily Robertson was defeated by Alaia Rubio Perez in two sets (6-1, 6-2), while senior Diana Yanotovskaya lost to Dariya Radulova (6-2, 6-3). Sveva Zerpelloni fell to Nadine Arbraizar Martinez (both sets ending at 6-3). Senior Rose Hayes pushed her opponent into three sets but ultimately lost after claiming the second set tiebreaker (3-6, 7-6, and then falling short at 2-6).

The Zags will conclude their home schedule tomorrow against Seattle University. The final home match is scheduled to begin around 1 p.m.
