Gonzaga University’s women’s rowing team advanced multiple boats to the finals of the West Coast Conference Championships after a strong showing on May 15 at Lake Natoma, California.
The team’s performance positions them for a chance at conference titles and NCAA Championship qualification during Saturday’s final races. This is an important event for collegiate rowing teams seeking national recognition and advancement.
The Bulldogs finished in the top two in all four preliminary heats. Their day included a first-place finish in the Women’s II Eight Heat 2 with a time of 7:09.790, as well as second-place results in the Women’s II Four Heat 2 (7:53.609), Women’s I Four Heat 2 (7:44.066), and Women’s I Eight Heat 1 (6:53.029). In each race, Gonzaga maintained competitive positioning against schools such as Portland, Washington State, Oregon State, Sacramento State, Saint Mary’s, Seattle University, Santa Clara, and Creighton.
In particular, Gonzaga’s effort in the Women’s I Eight saw them finish just behind Oregon State while pulling ahead of other competitors over the final stretch of the race. The Zags’ consistent performances throughout Friday’s heats have secured their place among the top contenders heading into Saturday’s grand finals.
With conference championships and NCAA berths at stake on Saturday’s final day of competition at Lake Natoma, Gonzaga will look to build on their momentum from Friday’s qualifying rounds.
