Gonzaga Men’s Track head coach Pat Tyson announced on Apr. 6 that Ronan Gantos will join the program as its newest runner.
Gantos brings notable experience and strong times to Gonzaga, with a personal best of 4:09.71 in the 1600 meters and 9:05.90 in the two-mile race. He placed second in both the 1500 and 3000 meters at the Oregon 3A state championships during his junior year, and finished second at the Nike Team Regional Cross Country open championship last fall with a time of 15:08.8 for the five-kilometer race.
Tyson said that Gantos is “a highly competitive athlete who wants to help Gonzaga win in the Pacific-12 Conference and be in the hunt to place very high at Nationals. Add in the fact he is an amazing student and great team guy, and it’s clear that the Zags got a very good one in Ronan Gantos.”
Gantos plans to major in Computer Science at Gonzaga. He said he chose Gonzaga because he “believes that the coaches and training will support me in improving as an athlete, and the strong academics and computer science program will help me to grow as a learner.” He also said he “appreciates the close-knit community both on the team and throughout the school, and I’m excited to be part of it!”
Gantos will complete his senior spring season at his high school in Portland before joining Gonzaga next semester.
