Gonzaga men’s rowing won the Western Sprints Trophy at the Dad Vail Regatta, according to a May 9 announcement. The team secured two Grand Final appearances during the event.
The achievement is significant for Gonzaga as it highlights their performance among strong competition in collegiate rowing. Winning the Western Sprints Trophy demonstrates the team’s progress and competitive standing this season.
The Bulldogs began Saturday’s races with their Second Varsity Eight crew, which finished sixth in its Grand Final with a time of 6:10.890 after a determined push in the final stretch. The Varsity Eight followed by also placing sixth in its Grand Final, clocking a time of 5:52.320 and finishing ahead of Santa Clara and San Diego overall to earn the Western Sprints trophy.
“It was great being a part of the Dad Vails,” assistant coach Kayla Cartelli said. “The competition was tough and the guys all raced hard. We are excited to bring home the varsity Western Sprints trophy!”
In Event #103 – Men’s Second Varsity Eight Grand Final, Drexel took first place with a time of 5:48.800, followed by Temple, La Salle, Santa Clara, Marist, and Gonzaga respectively. In Event #105 – Men’s Varsity Eight Grand Final, Drexel again placed first at 5:37.120; Temple came second; La Salle third; MIT fourth; Colgate fifth; and Gonzaga sixth with their trophy-winning performance.
This result reflects continued dedication from both athletes and coaches within Gonzaga’s program as they look ahead to future competitions.
