The Gonzaga men’s rowing team will host Santa Clara for a home race on April 11, with races beginning at 9 a.m. at Silver Lake at the Johnson Family Boathouse, according to an announcement released on April 9.
The event is significant as it marks the first time Santa Clara will compete on Gonzaga’s home course. This provides an opportunity for both teams to test their skills in new conditions and offers local fans a chance to watch competitive collegiate rowing.
Assistant coach Kayla Cartelli said, “We are excited to host Santa Clara for the first time on our home course. There are a great program with some fast crews. It will be an exciting day of racing!”
The schedule includes three races: the JV8 at 9 a.m., followed by the Varsity Eight (1V8) at 9:15 a.m., and concluding with the Third/Fourth Varsity Eight (3/4V8) at 9:45 a.m. Spectators have access to dedicated viewing areas, and maps showing these locations as well as ADA parking are available from event organizers. Fans are also welcome to return to the boathouse after racing concludes.
Lineups have been announced for all four varsity boats, including crew members and coxswains across each level.
As collegiate rowing continues its spring season, events like this provide valuable experience for athletes and foster competition between programs.
