Gonzaga Baseball defeated Seattle 16-13 on May 16, marking the final Gonzaga Athletics home event in the West Coast Conference. The team finished the regular season with a record of 35-17 overall and 22-5 in conference play.
The significance of this victory lies in Gonzaga’s strong performance throughout the season, as their 22 conference wins are the most by any team in the West Coast Conference in over twenty years. This achievement comes ahead of Gonzaga’s move to the PAC-12 next year.
The game was closely contested, featuring multiple lead changes. After falling behind early, Gonzaga rallied in several innings. Mikey Bell played a key role at bat, driving in six runs and going five for six at the plate—tying a program record for most hits in a single game for the third time this season. Brandon Cabrera and Peyton Miller also contributed important pinch-hit RBIs during their final appearance at Patterson Baseball Complex on Senior Day.
Gonzaga responded to Seattle’s late-inning surge by scoring five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to reclaim and secure their lead. The Bulldogs finished seven wins ahead of any other team in their conference this season and clinched both a series sweep against Seattle and the regular-season title.
Looking forward, Gonzaga will enter the West Coast Conference tournament as its top seed. Their first game is scheduled for Thursday at 2 p.m. local time in Scottsdale, Arizona, where they will face off against one of Wednesday’s play-in winners. The entire tournament will be available via ESPN+, with its championship game broadcast nationally on ESPNU.
