Early Morning South Hill Apartment Fire

0Comments

Shortly before 5 am on the morning of 27 September, Spokane Fire Department (SFD) crews responded to a report of smoke from the second floor with the smoke detectors going

off. The structure is a two and one half story house converted to four apartments. An attack crew made entry from a stairwell leading to the half story while a search team entered the

first floor to conduct a search of the structure and evacuate the occupants. Crews were met with high heat in one of the units and attacked the fire from the landing.

The fire was quickly knocked down and confined to one unit. Crews then transitioned to an overhaul phase and searched for hidden fire in the rest of the structure. In all, 27 SFD

firefighters responded to the call resulting in no injuries to civilians; one firefighter was transported to the hospital for a medical reason. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
