SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. –  The Spokane  County Board of Commissioners has approved $300,000 from the County’s  Mental Health 1/10th of 1% sales tax for the construction

of a Children  and Youth Services Center in the West Central Neighborhood of Spokane to  treat children and teens with mental health and substance use disorder  issues. The

primary focus is on serving children and youth of color.

The  Native Project requested these funds to help with the project’s  construction costs. This facility will house the Native Project’s  licensed outpatient children and teens mental

health programs, licensed  adolescent substance use disorder outpatient treatment program, and the  Native Project’s various youth and families prevention programs. The  timeline

for completion is approximately June of 2024.

Chair of  the Spokane County Board of Commissioners, Mary Kuney, stated, “We are  excited to be joining a project in our community that will offer  services to help reduce barriers

for our youth to access the mental  health care they need especially during their formulative years.”

Commissioner  Al French, who brought forward this request for consideration by the  full Board of County Commissioners, stated, “I am very pleased with the  allocation of this

funding to the Native Project. This funding will be a  significant investment in the future of our youth, specifically  children and young adults of color.”
